Master Thesis: Adapting LLMs

Materials Center Leoben Forschung GmbH (MCL) is a leading competence center in the field of materials research and technology. In this context, we support numerous companies in the production sector developing high-performance materials, manufacturing processes and products. By developing specific computer-aided technologies, we accelerate materials based innovation including the digitalization of the manufacturing chain as well as of products. Our portfolio includes cooperative research and development projects with international and national partners from the production and research sectors as well as several consulting, laboratory and simulation services in materials science.

Master Thesis: Adapting LLMs to yield tractable probabilistic models for materials discovery

ReferenceNr.: MCL_269

Your Profile

  • Master‘s study programme in computer science, applied mathematics, data science, material science or similar.
  • Good communication skills (D/E).
  • Lecture on Large Language Models (LLM).
  • Basic knowledge of LLMs for code generation or a lecture on probabilistic modelling /programming.
  • Basic knowledge of inference algorithms or interest in modelling process – structure –property relationships of materials.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Together with other students from Graz University of Technology, Vienna University of Technology and Montanuniversität Leoben you will explore the limits of current large language models (LLMs) with respect to creating tractable probabilistic models and expressing them in probabilistic programming languages (PPLs). Depending on your background, you might also explore LLMs to model process – structure –property relationships of selected materials.
Be part of charting and pushing the limits of current LLMs!
